Christmas 2019 at the Windsor

With artists Stacey Alleaume (Soprano) from Opera Australia, Stephen Marsh (Baritone) and Adam McMillan (Repetiteur) from Melba Opera Trust, Opera Society members and guests and fabulous prizes available to all it really was a wonderful occasion.

This year saw one of the largest gatherings of society members and guests ever entertained with excerpts from Verdi, Gounod and Christmas Carols performed by these excellent artists.

A suptuous meal and beverages, great service all in a truly magnificent venue ensured that this was a memorable event to end calendar 2019.

An exciting year beckons in 2020 with both well known and little performed operas, the highly anticipated reopening of OAs new building in Southbank and a vartiety of different opera venues all of which bodes well for the season ahead.

Your society committee thanks you for your participation this year, extends Best Wishes and Season’s Greetings to all and looks forward to your company in 2020.

Back Stage Tour 2019

This year’s tour was so popular that we had to split attendees into two separate groups each with their own guide.

We started with a fascinating behind the scenes look at how the Hamer Hall works. We actually got to walk out onto the stage and see what the hall looks like from the performers point of view. How awesome it must be playing to a full house!!

This was followed by the view from a box seat in the State Theatre, then through the many corridors into a celebrity suite close to the stage and the loading dock where a complete semi trailer full of sets can be unloaded into the wings of the huge stage area. It was all very impressive and a real eye opener if you have only ever been in the audience.

All agreed it was a wonderful tour and very well worthwhile.

Our Spring Luncheon 2019

What a wonderful experience – Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club – Sept 19th

It could not have been better. The weather was so good pre lunch drinks and chat occurred on the balcony overlooking the courts. Whilst inside the scene was set for yet another very special experience.

Our singer was Anna-Louise Cole (a young singer from Opera Australia) accompanied by repetiteur Phillipa Saffey. We were regaled with exciting arias from several dramatic operas, all well received.

With a delicious meal, lots of prizes to be won and great company it really was an experience not to be missed.

Our final luncheon for the year will be held at the Hotel Windsor on Thursday December 12th 2019. All bookings via the Opera Society office on 9685 3757 between 10.30am and 1.30pm Monday to Friday or operasociety@bigpond.com

Christmas in July 2019

Sunday July 7th 2019 saw circa 70 Opera Society members and guests at the Marriott Hotel in Exhibition Street Melbourne enjoying a magnificent event. Attendees were treated to a wonderful selection of arias and songs by Melba Opera Trust’s own and Opera Society sponsored baritone Stephen Marsh and repetiteur Adam McMillan.

Both equitted themselves very well with Stephen showing just what a difference a year can make. Stephen sang for us at the same event last year. Whilst he was very good then he was excellent this year.

With Christmas fare aplenty, good company and excellent entertainment the day was capped off by the usual Bon Bon

extravaganza.

Suffice it to say that everyone commented it was “an event to remember”.
