Christmas in July
On July 3rd 2022, over 80 Opera Society members came to the Melbourne Marriott Hotel for our Christmas in July lunch. Our singer was soprano Danita Weatherstone whose encore of “I want to be a Prima Donna” from The Enchantress by Victor Herbert set the mood for what was one of our most successful lunches.
The food at the Marriott was up to standard and Valma’s bon-bons were lots of fun and very popular. The Marriott gave us a lucky door prize of a High Tea voucher for two and this was won by one of our Premier Pass members.
One of the highlights of the lunch was the presentation of a plaque to our long standing office manager, Margaret Ironside, who retired a few years ago after nearly 20 years of excellent voluntary service.
Our next lunch will be at Kooyong Tennis Club on Thursday September 15th 2022 and we hope to see you there.
Opera Society Events 2022
Autumn Lunch
On March 22nd 2022 the Opera Society held its Autumn lunch. The attendance was capped at 60 people and not surprisingly we were over-subscribed.
After a glass of bubbles on arrival, we were entertained by our 2022 Melba scholars, Samantha Hargreaves soprano and Nathan Breeze baritone who were accompanied by repetiteur Adam McMillan. We enjoyed a delightful performance by these two young singers who may well go far.
The food and the service were excellent, and a great time was had by those lucky enough to attend this event. The room overlooked some old plane trees which provided a wonderful leafy background for our lunch.
Our next lunch will be Christmas in July on Sunday July 3rd 2022 at the Melbourne Marriott on the corner of Lonsdale and Exhibition Streets. We do hope you will be able to join us for what is one of our most popular events.
